There has been a lot of discussion regarding the budget deficit and national debt. The fiscal commission seems to be considering a VAT to "raise billions of dollars" for the government coffers.
I know that there are some here that support the fair tax to replace the current income and payroll taxes, but how do you feel about the VAT?
What should be cut from government spending to help balance the budget?
Would you pay additional taxes to reduce debt or balance the budget to protect the future for your children or grandchildren?
Would you accept a reduction in SS benefits as a means to reduce government spending?
Should the government encourage citizens to purchase bonds as opposed to having foreigners hold the debt? If yes, how much interest should they pay?
What "sacrifices" are you all willing to make to improve the fiscal health of the United States?
I'm just attempting to get dialog started.
